Why are my nails worse now than before?

I bought some sally hanson miracle nail stuff in the gold bottle, due to having pretty brittle split nails. It seemed to be working quite quickly, a week or so. Then all of a sudden my nails started getting pretty loose and white and starting to break off. Why has this happened now, after a short period of brillian nail growth.
