Does it really dry your hair in the long run?

I've been using pantene shampoo&conditioner for probably 15 years now. I have friend that told me that it is actually ruining my hair and has been proven by professionals that it strips natural oils and makes its more brittle in the long run! I love this product but, could it really be ruining my hair?
