Help with my hair ?? Emergency?

so yesterday i permed my hair and as i was washing the perm out I was left with a whole bunch of hair on the comb. I believe about one third of the hair on my head fell out. Now I scared. I dont have any bold spot but my hair definanetly looks and feels alot less. Does this mean it fell out from the scalp or it just broke off since it also feels brittle? Does this mean my hair follicles are dead and I wont grow that hair back? and is it posseble that if I cut my hair and start treating it , it could grow back and be healthy? can someone please tell me what they think happened and how i can fix it. Btw I have very thick hair and it is also coarse . Helpp
