What are some good authors or books to use as examples?

I'm taking the AP Lang and Comp exam tomorrow and need help with references to use... On the test its good to back yourself up with evidence. For instance, if the essay was on satire and sarcasm, I could use Swift and his Modest Proposal. So can you tell me good references and examples of authors, books, historical events, shows, and many other things?
