Bleaching & Dying My Hair Help!?

Firstly, Iam a guy so dont give me some gay / ladies stuff plz. :) Ok, I have natural black hair. I dyed it brown yesterday but theres no difference whatsoever so I was thinking about bleaching it brown... But the thing is... would it damage my hair a lot? Like... a LOT? And if it DOES make my hair all brittle and stuff, will it get better again soon? Or if theres an easier way to make my hair brown (not too costy) tell me plz :) thx
